Driving through the student area of Heaton in Newcastle upon Tyne a couple of weeks ago, I spotted what looked to be a couple of very good cafes. With queues down the street no less. While I am not so fond of queuing, my interest was piqued enough to plan a later visit. We chose Butterfly Cabinet for Sunday morning brunch last weekend, arriving to the cafe at 10.15am, with around a 15 minute wait for a table. I did wonder what could be so good that people (students!!) would be up and about and queuing for a cafe at 9.45 on a Sunday morning.
But after sampling the breakfast, it became very clear. I don't think there is anywhere in Newcastle that offers such an amazing selection of breakfasts. The portion sizes were huge and the pricing relatively low. After lattes and a fruit smoothie, my boyfriend ordered The Business, which as the name suggests offers everything you would expect from a Full English Breakfast. And I ordered the Veggie USA - four buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, two veggie sausages, two strips of fakey bacon and two hash browns. I can't wait to visit again!
