Cat-Eyes for Autumn~Winter

By:

As the lady makes a comeback cat eyes continue to be key

After being stripped back in the spring/summer shows the lady makes big a comeback for autumn/winter. Top designers continued to make cat eye sunglasses the finishing touch. Cassandra Hollis, Sunglasses Shop’s* fashion editor presents the sharpest sexiest cat eyes out there now and how to make the most of them.

The autumn/winter shows were all about contrasts. Pit against a strong showing of masculine inspired pieces the femme fatale was brought into the 21st century by the likes of Prada, Gucci, Bottega Venetta, Dior, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Caroline Herrera.

Raf Simons contrasted high femininity with a modern edge of crisp monochrome and metallics. Gucci’s was a high luxe texture fest with glossy leathers, python and sassy feathers. Prada’s was wonderfully disheveled with a grunge flavour.

As appropriate the cat eye was enlisted by the likes of Dior, Tom Ford and Gucci to add the ultimate feminine ending. Here are five of the sharpest, sexiest feline frames that will transform your autumn/winter pieces.

Miu Miu 080S – The Nouveau Femme Fatale
From the adored Miu Miu this luscious sharp acetate metal mix has the perfect modern edge that the season’s contemporary femme fatale craves. Sleek metal temples give the frame a fluid look. We love the monochrome version it’s the perfect way to add edge to new pink pieces. With an array of animal prints on offer dappled frames make for a more subtle approach. Or if you are inspired by Burberry and DKNY’s animalcentric catwalks add this to your print pile up.

DKNY 4107 – Old School Grunge with a Modern Crystal Edge
A strong rebellious strain runs through fashion for the new season. We love Prada’s lady-grunge. Saint Laurent, Emilio Pucci, Rodarte and Haider Ackermann all had grungy agendas. This DKNY frame reminds us of the sixties cats that Kurt and Courtney wore back in the day. Pink is a top A/W colour to work. As seen on the likes of Alexa Chung and Laura Bailey pink sunglasses have been a statement flourish we have been loving for some time. In crystal clear acetate it’s a sharp modern twist. Just add slip, bed hair, fur, boots and knot a belt about the waist and feel like queen of the scene.

Oliver Peoples Alisha – Luscious, Luxe and Handmade
Catmasters (a cross between a cat eye and a clubmaster) are a big eyewear trend as our lust for retro requires more and more variations. This ultra luxe frame from Californian retro pioneers Oliver Peoples is stunning. Thick curved and ultra flattering this handmade sunglass is a timeless addition to the wardrobe that you will treasure forever. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was so pleased with hers she Instagrammed a pic in them soon after she was snapped with an OP bag.

Miu Miu Noir Noir 10NS – the Ultimate Neo Forties Frame
A modern classic that fits every face it continues to be a key piece this season. You will likely be familiar with the forties inspired frame that originally appeared in Miu Miu’s A/W 2011 collection. It fits everyone. Make the most of the tortoiseshell by using it as part of your texture play this A/W. Prada’s snakeskin brown coat would be a fantasy pairing. Indeed if you are like most of us; settling for the high street inspired version of your favourite runway coat, great sunglasses will take it up several notches.

Dior Mohotani – An Extreme Shape in Cool Chic Grey
Grey is a strong colour for the new season. What could be more alluring than Dior’s? The extreme cat Dior Mohotani wears it particularly well. We can see this beautiful streaked texture worked with knits and tweeds. Grey and pink is also a top colour combo for the season. Mohotani would excel with Topshop Unique’s almost-affordable pink coat. It’s also bold enough to work with some of the mannish cuts from the new season’s tomboy fixation.
