5 Heels You Can't Live Without

Elongating your figure, putting the finishing touch to any outfit, and making you feel outright sexy too, it’s no wonder that we’re gaga for heels. With so many amazing styles to choose from, it’s tempting to do a Carrie Bradshaw and stockpile heels like there’s no tomorrow. But despite the number of pairs we have cluttering up our closets, there are always a select few that we return to time and again. These essential heels are the building blocks of your capsule wardrobe, perfect for every occasion. Together, they’ll see you through every season, from work to a night out on the town. If you want to create a collection that’s built to last, you need to start with these must-have basics.

The Little Black Pump
Everybody’s got their favourite little black dress, and the little black pump is the footwear equivalent. Classic, chic and universally versatile, this shoe teams perfectly with any outfit. Understated for work, smartening up for formal occasions, and a sleek way to add height to your party look, it’s a shoe style that we just can’t do without. For added versatility, keep the pump simple, black leather, and without any fancy detailing.

Wedges
While there’s nothing sexier than a stiletto, sometimes we’re just not in the mood for crippling foot pain. When you’re looking to add statement height to your outfit, but don’t fancy teetering all over the dancefloor, wedges are the way to do it. Their added support makes it easy to walk in even the tallest of wedge heels, so they’re perfect for petites. Have fun with colour, or stick with classic black like these cute Kitsch Couture Suedettes from BANK if you want to invest in a pair that will go with everything.

Wooden platforms
Much as we love our glittery heels, they’re not really daytime wear. But when you’re popping out for lunch with friends, doing a bit of shopping, or heading to the office, you’re not always in the mood for flats. Enter wooden platform heels – a shoe that has a daytime feel, the heel you want, and a distinctive look that’s guaranteed to make you feel good. The platform sole makes it more comfortable for you to be on your feet in these all day too.

Statement heels
These are the heels we dream about. Literally. Sometimes you spot a pair online or in a store window and they simply stop you in your tracks: you have to have them. These are your statement heels. Wacky, innovative, fun, colourful, eyewateringly high, whatever way, they’re designed to attract attention, making them perfect for special nights out, and for making you feel special too. Let your own personal style run riot and go with your gut on this one – this is the pair to really splurge on. If you’re looking for some inspiration, just look to Lady Gaga.

Knee high boots
When the weather takes a turn for the worse, stepping out in heeled sandals is a no no. If you’re looking to add height in a more practical way, a classic, sleek black knee high boot is the way to do it. Team with dresses, skirts or over skinny jeans, they’ll take your from office smart to after hours sexy effortlessly.

  1. I think of all these heel types my favourite is the simple black pumps. Probably because they are the kind I can't actually wear.

My feet are really wide at the front, but narrow at the back, meaning I end up getting a size bigger than I need to fit my toes in, and then my heel is just popping out. It makes me so sad. Silly feet.
