When I first discovered the launch of a Uniqlo x Orla Kiely collaboration (on my Instagram feed I do believe), I immediately hopped right over to the site to see what was on offer. I have long had Orla Kiely's designs in my vision. I swoon when I see Leith Clark or Alexa Chung wearing an adorable Orla Kiely coat, I go as far as putting things in my virtual basket at sale times and I spent rather a long time in the Covent Garden boutique a couple of months ago. Looking but never buying, the prices being just that little bit over what I would like to spend. One day a whole wardrobe full of pieces will be in my possession I'm sure. But until then, what better way to get a taste of the classic design ethic than the very inexpensive range brought out by Uniqlo. I really love the collaborations Uniqlo have been doing lately, (you can check out a previous collaborative post here).
I bought a few pieces for myself and for gifts. This style of dress is a favourite - loose and comfortable but still stylish. Here is the first of my buys, a sweet smock dress with peter-pan collar in dark grey with the signature cream Orla Kiely flower print. I chose to wear the dress simply with dark grey tights and blush pink/cream shoes by Kat Maconie, the classic 1940's style of the sandals working as the perfect accompaniment to the cream accents in the dress. I'll show you my other purchase another day.
