Today is my birthday and as well as taking the last week off work to spend time doing the things I like to do, I spent today doing more things I like to do. A family day was split into two parts. This morning I visited one of my most favourite museums in the North East of England, Bowes Museum, to photograph a fantastic fashion exhibition (more of this in a later post) - long time readers may remember a birthday a couple of years ago also spent here. I love old buildings and this has to be one of the most stunning backdrops for a photo-shoot.
I wore my 1950's vintage birthday dress, a peppermint jacket from Zara, Chanel flats and my newest and still most favourite handbag from Pollini. After a few days of dull and rainy weather in the North East of England, today the sun decided to shine. And while not as hot as the London weather I have experienced this week, the almost spring-like weather worked perfectly for this outfit I had in mind to wear today.
After the morning spent at Bowes Museum and a walk around the market town of Barnard Castle where it is situated, it was then a drive on to small boutique hotel Solberge Hall Hotel in North Yorkshire where I had booked a Champagne Afternoon Tea for the family via a voucher I had from Groupon. Many, many afternoon teas have been featured on here and it remains one of my favourite past-times, it seems such a traditionally English thing to do. We started with a glass of champagne and finger sandwiches which then followed with a pot of good English Twinings Early Grey tea to go along with scones with cream & jam and some delightful cakes to finish off with. It has been a perfectly relaxing birthday.
