Following on from my last post, I go to the Races in Newcastle upon Tyne every year, usually Northumberland Plate Day but this year Ladies Day for a change. And each year I wonder why I go, I suppose the free tickets help but really it is not my scene at all. I did manage to take some photographs this year, usually I never seem to get around to it. Taken with my compact Ixus camera instead of my usual SLR, I also forgot to put the larger memory card in, so I only managed a few shots. We stayed for a couple of hours and then went on to a restaurant in nearby Jesmond before heading into town for some cocktails.

  1. Love the pictures and how they look kinda blurry, the ones of the drinks look yummy. I've never been to the races before but I'd like to give it a go once x

  6. It looks like fun, even though it didn't seem like your scene! I suppose it's nice to do something out of your comfort zone once in a while?

  7. Nothing wrong with stepping outside your scene from time to time - but I completely understand that it's not your thing. I hope you had a little bit fun though. :)

  8. It sounds so neat, and somewhat bizarre. I would go just for the clothing I think. (From what I've heard, people get super dressed up. Is that true or just my imagination?)

  11. How divine! Your Queen was here for the Queens Plate at the Woodbine Racetrack in Canada back in July. Her limo and millions of escorts passed us on the freeway!!

    I waved, lol.

  16. Great pictures... I love going to the races. Although I've never been to the races in England they don't seem so different then the ones in America. :)

  17. We have a racecourse where I live also, I find it quite fun to get dressed up and used to horse ride so love just seeing all the horses. Cannot stand all the poshies and schmoozing that goes on though :)

  18. Races seem to be much more fun there! Here in Japan they're not at all the place where people get dressed up. And I love your Chanel bag! I want to get one myself some day...

  20. Have only been to the races once and it was when I was working for a fashion accessories brand. We had a stand in the shopping marquee at Newbury. Although we were working, we kept nipping out for Pimms and to place bets.watch the races. Was good fun as a one-off but not sure if I'd be desperate to go for the day if I was paying! xx

  22. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I love your dress (it really suits you) and you're right, it doesn't look like the race scene is quite you. However, I hope you still had a great day. The pictures look great in a retro kind of way ;-) Have a great weekend, I look forward to seeing more of your blog. Love from London x

  24. i did still have fun, i think it's probably the newcastle scene that is not so much to my taste!

rosie - yes, people get super-dressed up! more so in newcastle i think where the smaller the garment the better!

one crafty fox - now your race day sounds a lot more exciting!

alice - the shoes are top shop

harriet - every year i go i decide i will bet but then i get there & see the queues and never get around to it :-(
