Pink Fetish

I definitely seem to have some sort of pink addiction when it comes to accessories, as you can see from the small selection below. I'm not sure why my eye is drawn to this colour but pink in all shades is definitely a favourite of mine.

Repetto + Kitty

I am just off to meet a friend at the flea-market in Tynemouth. It's a lovely spring day, so perfect to browse for treasure and have a walk along the coast. There's a lovely little wooden hut that is a cafe situated on the beach, so we'll relax there after a morning of (I hope) successful thrifting. I'm wearing my comfy Repetto jazz shoes so that distance will not be a problem, as it is so often is with the shoes I wear.

Band T-Shirt

Today I wore my Au Revoir Simone t-shirt which I love for the grey and fuschia pink colour mix. They are one of my favourite bands, I do wish they would visit the UK sometime - or maybe in a better life I could go to see them in their home town of Brooklyn, NY.

Quiet Time

Sometimes, all that is needed is some quiet time alone. A book, a cup of tea and maybe some Radio 4 in the background.

Hot Gossip

MAC lipstick in Hot Gossip ❖ vintage Etsy dress

I love MAC recycling - return 6 empty products and you receive a free lipstick. I get through so much lipstick wearing it everyday for work, I am a continual lipstick/lip balm applyer. So in these credit crunch times, any penny pinching schemes are gratefully received.

Green Pea (Coat)

It really felt like the first day of spring today with temperatures around 17℃. While it was too cool first thing not to wear a coat, it was safe to give a nod to springtime by choice of colour.

Virtual Love Story

I'm sure most people are already aware of the coupling of The Sartorialist Scott Schuman with Garance Doré. I had read about it but wasn't sure if it was mere internet gossip. The thought of these two photographers meeting while street-style photo-shooting had the romantic in me pleading that this would be for real. So reading this interview on the Refinery29 site this week gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Purple Candy

A visit from my parents today and they brought me these adorable little candy dishes.

Wise Words

Picture from here struck a chord today. Do you get days (or sometimes weeks) when you just question everything? I don't often but when I do...

Put the Kettle On

My new Tetsubin Japanese kettle from Gifts of the Orient, almost too pretty to use.

Trilby + Sequins

Top Shop trilby hat ❖ Ebay vintage 80's sequin sweater ❖ AA wet-look leggings ❖ Russell & Bromley patent quilted pumps

This is the Ebay sweater I won recently, probably not the best pic, black never seems to photograph too well. I had to buy a little tub of sequins as some were missing, I could not find 10mm anywhere but the 8mm still worked ok.

A work outfit, I feel a little bit like Wednesday Adams. This was taken last year in the days pre-tripod but I still wear this now. I think the peter-pan collar is a forever classic.

Still Ill

No, I'm not looking to take lots of pills... just a couple for my ongoing cold. I thought these painkillers looked more like sweeties than anything medical.

Living Area

Here are some areas of my living room. My flat is not huge and as a result I have some limited photographing areas. But I have some pieces within my home that I love as much now as the day I bought them. My home is definitely my refuge!

I Have A Dream

Slogan t-shirts are nothing new, harking back to the Katherine Hamnett and Frankie Goes To Hollywood days and this sweater by Sonia Rykiel has a similar political message today as they did then. But €995 to wear this message? I'm not so sure the 40th anniversary of the fashion house is a good enough reason - yours at Colette if you so desire.

Happy Easter

I hope everyone has had a lovely extended Easter weekend and not eaten too much chocolate. I came down with a horrible cold/chest infection so haven't stopped coughing for the last few days. So really, it has been nice to be off work so I can just laze around doing nothing and not have to talk too much, I'm glad I didn't have too many plans. Pah! I hate being ill, I hope it doesn't last too long. Typical, when I just started my 6.30am summer gym regime last week, to become ill and break my good intentions!

Shoe Favourites

So today, I give you some favourites of my shoe collection which are of a similar hue - green and cream is such a lovely combination I think. Until I started to remember where I had bought these, I was surprised by how many were from Marks & Spencer, as I don't consider myself a big M&S shopper.

Silver Foil

This vintage dress makes me feel like I'm wrapped in foil. The cowl neck at the back is it's best feature, a shame it is covered by my hair.

Dreaming of...

... cupcakes. This talk of coffee has got me thinking of yummy cake to go alongside it. These were some cupcakes I baked (with my own hands!) last year for a friend's visit. I colour matched them to the vintage cake stand I had bought from an antique shop. Very girly!

Morning Coffee

While drinking my morning coffee today, my gaze fell upon my beloved coffee pot and how absolutely amazing a design it is. The Bialetti Moka Express, designed in 1933 became a design classic in the 1950's and a staple of every Italian kitchen. There have been many variations on the theme but the one above is the classic, it has become the world's most famous coffee pot being cited in many design books as well as being the inspiration for many designers.

I am now onto my third pot as the previous two have been burned alive on the stove, through a sleep-fuddled haze, I have forgotten to actually put any water in the pot. I am a total coffee addict, using both a Gaggia machine and a cafetiere but this is definitely my favourite, the best and coincidentally the cheapest - definitely worth having in a few different sizes.

A recent buy from Ebay, I was the only bidder on this 1980's power shouldered dress, which I managed to nab for a fiver. I did need to have it shortened as usual and I was going to take the shoulder pads out but have decided to leave them in as they give the dress structure. The colour of the dress is actually purple, it looks blue in these pictures and I love the two-tone effect. But I was mostly drawn to the sequinned scarf that trails down the back of the dress.

Two Lovers

Yesterday I went to see the film Two Lovers at my local independent cinema. It's a great film and one which has you still thinking long after it has finished. Set in my beloved New York (I am an NY obsessive!), there is a Moby song in the club scene that I can't get out of my head. I have been listening to it for the last few weeks in my Sunday morning Body Balance class amid yoga postures and wondered who it was by.

Professional Pics

Having so much fun with this online application I've just discovered, Pixlr. I don't have Photoshop although I would love it. It is so expensive and I'm not sure if there is any other way of "acquiring" it. But in the meantime, I'm quite happy with this. Using the same pic from the post below, these images only took a couple of seconds to change. No boring plain photographs ever again!

Racing Style

Today is the Grand National, one of Britain's biggest racing events and while I am not a big racing fan, my thoughts turn to one of Newcastle's biggest race days, Northumberland Plate. This event I have attended the last few years, due more to the fact that my friend gets free press tickets, than any love I have of racing. In fact, after a few glasses of champagne I pretty much forget that the whole point of the day is to bet on horses (which I never do). Other than that though, it is a big day in the Newcastle social calender and there are lots of people there taking advantage of a dressing up day.

So when I came across I Love Factory via Refinery 29, I was interested to see the array of headpieces they have designed. They really are most unusual and would certainly be the centrepoint of any outfit. It's quite fun I think to create an outfit around the one piece.

Last year I bought two new pieces, undecided which to wear. But having found a pair of shoes in my dressing room hardly worn in the exact same shades of pink and black, I decided to go for the feather creation with the intention of keeping my dress simple.
